What's It Worth? 1988 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe ..Always A Bridesmaid Never A Bride

Much like our buddy Rodney Dangerfield the Chevrolet C4 Corvette never got any respect. Maybe replacing the Ancient but Iconic C3 was a daunting task but the Ole C4 was a darn good car and a giant leap forward from bumper to bumper.

First introduced in model year 1984 the C4 Vette was the first All New Corvette since 1963. All new chassis, suspension, brakes, electronics and ummm sheet metal or fiberglass made the C4 a ground breaking design.

Engine of choice at first was the some what quirky Crossfire Injection 350 Small Block V8. The Crossfire system was so much trouble prone it was the average wrench had not a clue how to work on it. History and time proved it to be not so bad. A not so good idea was the 4+3 semi sorta manual transmission. That debacle would be replaced by a modern ZF 6 speed in 1986. Oddly the early C4's were better with a tried and true GM Automatic.

You either loved or hated the C4 Styling. Some car mags of the day weren't so nice. Car and Driver harped on that it looked like a "Fat Camaro" others like Road and Track loved it calling it "Handsome as a Ferrari" Interiors were much more up to date and modern compared to the C3 and thru the test of time the C4 has aged well and was tastefully updated till its final days in 1996.

So the big question is how are C4's doing in value. In a word Better. The once only a Bridesmaid never a Bride Vette is gaining in popularity and status. Special models like ZR1 and Pace Cars have always been sought after but even the Base models if in nice shape are gaining ground. If you are looking for a reliable, comfy, easy to drive entry level Vette you can't go wrong with a C4.
